Indoor Air Pollution in the Office
Posted on March 28 2019
You wake up at 6 am to the sound of the alarm. Have your cup of tea. Stretch. Exercise maybe or meditate. A quick shower and breakfast, send kids off to school and then you embark on your commute to work. Perhaps it is by car. Or metro or train / bus. An hour or so later you reach office. And rush to get to your workspace. A few hours go by and it is time for lunch. You have lunch at your desk or at the cafeteria. If you step outside you are likely to be assaulted by the nicotine from the smokers outside every building.
A few more hours go by and you commence your homeward commute. An hour or two later you are home. You unwind /cook / help your kids with homework, have dinner. And hit the bed.
24 hours. Of which 22 hours or more were indoors – at home / office or inside a vehicle. How much time was spent in nature?
Indoors we breathe unnatural, often contaminated air with hardly any nature around us. That’s 10,000 liters of indoor air. All this without probably giving a second thought to how that air is affecting us.
On the contrary, you probably pay very close attention to the 2-3 liters of water you drink and the 3 meals you consume.
Did you know that it’s actually often the stale and unsafe indoor air that’s causing your mental fatigue, general tiredness, headaches, irritable eyes, sore throat?
Air quality impacts your health directly. Day after day the air you breathe either builds the foundation of good health or reduces it.
It is important to take the necessary steps to ensure that the air you breathe in office is safe.
The presence of a functional air conditioner is not to be equated with safe air quality.
If you happen to work in a new age, high tech building that has an efficient air filtration system - great. If not you can protect yourself in your work area by placing Renew Air purifier bags.
As an employer you will have a healthier team when they breathe clean air. A healthy team is a happier and more productive one.
The impact of air pollution happens over a period of time. It cannot be undone in a day or week. Hence, it becomes all the more important to ensure that we #BreatheFresh in office .
